Meet Pole in Style's member Sara and hear her pole dancing story
Meet Pole in Style's member, Sara, a pole dancer, girlfriend, sister and daughter who works as a social and video marketing consultant. Sara shares with us her pole dance story here.
When did you start pole dancing and how did you get into it?
A friend of mine introduced it to me about five years ago. She had a pole at her apartment and told me to "try to climb it". I tried and failed miserably. After that I signed up for my first pole class and haven't stopped loving it.
How did people around you react when they knew that you were doing pole dance?
Some of them were surprised, but also very impressed. Every time they saw a trick made by me or someone else, they asked "how do you/he/she do that!?". This was good and it meant that this kind of sport got more and more accepted.
What kind of impact has pole dancing made on you and your life?
Oh, a big one! It has made me accept myself for who I am and my own body and it has also brought so many wonderful people into my life. The pole community is one of the best things in this world. You get pole sisters/brothers for life.
What are your favorite tricks?
Currently, I'm into all moves that look a little bit "artistic" and drops. So every move related to that could be an interesting one, and each transition into a drop.
What are your nemesis tricks?
Flexibility moves, like Jade and Russian split. It takes time, but I will get there some day. For some tricks, you have to be a fisherman : patience is one's best friend.
What are you currently working on? What do you want to achieve?
I love creating movements into a choreography and find new styles. I hope I can be on stage some time in the future.
Who are your pole idols?
Oh so many! Anastasia Skukhtorova, Heidi Coker, Marlo Fisken and the list gets longer and longer, haha.
Pole dance or sport? What do you think about pole as an Olympics sport?
Oh, that is such a hard question. I love how pole can do anything you want, whether it is pole sport or pole dance. I would love to see pole in the Olympics, because it would show the world that we are just gymnasts on a vertical pole, but I would also like to have the creative part of pole , such as pole art and pole theater. Everyone should have the possibility to choose who they want to be on stage.
Any advice to new beginners or those who want to try pole dance.
Just do it! Don't find any excuse, just go to a pole class and enjoy!
