Interview with Alicia, a pole fitness instructor at Emmas Pole Dancing

This week, Pole in Style features Alicia, a 28-year-old pole fitness instructor at Emmas Pole Dancing, Derby. Learn more about her in the interview below. Alicia is wearing our Red Spring Floral pole wear set in this photo. Get this set here.

1.When did you start pole dancing and how did you get into it?

I began pole dancing five years ago when a work colleague asked me if I would try it with her. I was addicted from my first lesson :)

2.How did people around you react when they learned that you were doing pole dance?

Everybody around me was really supportive and understood how tough training was! When I first started, I only really told my close friends and family and posted odd photos on Facebook. The more I got into it the harder it was to keep it to myself and I think everyone now knows!

3.What are your favourite tricks?

I love flexibility moves! Anything with a split or back bend! I also love handstand moves!

4.What are your nemesis tricks?

I really don't like anything to do with relying on feet! You will hardly ever see me doing any type of foot hangs! I'm slowly trying to break this fear haha.

5.What are you currently working on? What are your goals for this year?

At the minute I am putting a Christmas routine together for our studio showcase. I'm adding some acrobatics into this routine so it's quite exciting playing with a different style of performing.

My goal for next year is to enter a competition as I haven't yet entered any. I'm going to definitely try to find the time though.

6.Any advice to new beginners or those who want to try pole dance?

Yes definitely give it a go! And if you've already started keep it up! Try not to compare your progress with others and go at your own pace. There are so many different styles of pole you just have to take your time to work out what fits best with you :)
