Pole in Style of the month: Meet Magdalena from Poland

Meet Magdalena, a pole dancer from Poland who is currently living in Norway.

1. Please tell us a bit about yourself

I'm a 26 year-old girl from Poland. I moved to Norway almost five years ago after graduating from university. Before that I visited Norway twice and felt in love with the country. I'm currently working at a hotel in Sandnes, and I like what I'm doing.

2. How did you get into pole dance?

I graduated from Physical Education School, so sports have always been a part of my life. When I moved to Norway I wanted to do something for my body and mind and find new friends. I never thought that I will be pole dancing. I played lacrosse before and it is a pretty rough sport. One day, I saw an announcement on Facebook group about new pole dance classes in Stavanger. So I signed up!

3. You are competing for the Norwegian Pole Sport Championship. Is this your first competition?

It will be my second competition. I competed in Rising Stars (October 2017, Lillestrøm). That was such a great experience and entrance to the Championships!

4. What made you decide to compete?

I wanted to go out of my comfort zone. I never thought that I will be able to perform in front of many people. I wanted to try myself and see how far I had come with my training. And I wanted to feel that adrenaline one more time!

5. How are you preparing for your competition?

I'm training two -three times a week on pole at the studio. Between that I'm trying to do some stretching at home. I have pole at home so I train at home whenever I have time. Also mental preparation is important for me. I'm trying to think about Championships as fun and great experience.

6. What has been the biggest challenge in competition preparation process?

The biggest challenge is to put together a routine. I can be very picky and quicky unsatisfied with small things until the very end. There is always something new what I want to change. It happens mostly when I’m in bed. Then I get frustrated because I cannot go to the studio right away.

7. Who are your pole idols?

I have many of them! All pole dancers have different styles and I love it. I like Yvonne Smink for her dance moves both on the pole and floor, Marion Crampe for elegance and artism, Greshilov Evgeny for his flips and strength! As for Norwegian pole dancers my favorite is Tina Jahr Hagberg - she is a machine, so strong! Jorge Lera – great artist, Hui Yin Low – spinning pole master: D. Also my first Norwegian idol was Gøril Synnøve - I learned a lot from her Instagram in the beginning. Now we are friends.

8. Your favorite and nemesis tricks

I think my favorite tricks are ayesha and capezio. My nemesis move right now is janeiro. I have been trying this one for a long time, and I still falling down or can’t hold it for two seconds.
