Pole in Style of the month: Meet Rania from Greece

Meet Rania, a pole dancer from Greece, who shares with Pole in Style her story.

1. Tell us about yourself.

My name is Rania and I am 43 years old. I am Greek and I live in Athens.

2. When did you start pole dancing and how did you get into it?

I started pole dancing around five years ago. After giving birth to my daughter, I wanted to find some type of work out. As soon as I realized that there was a pole studio very close to where I lived, I signed up for a lesson and that was it. I got hooked and my pole fitness journey started.

3. How did people around you react when they found out about your pole dancing?

Most of my friends and acquaintances found it very hard and were impressed. Others, particularly men, think it is very sexy. My family was very skeptical at first. They thought that I would begin to striptease but I ignored them. Later, I invited them to attend a solo performance I had at the pole studio. They realized then how tough it was and changed their mind.

6. Your pole idols

There are many professional pole dancers whom I admire. But the ones who really inspire me are the amateur pole dancers, women and men, who love dancing and work hard to improve themselves. Everyday I watch so many pole dance videos of women who are even older than 50 or with kids and family responsibilities but try to find time weekly to work out, pouring their emotions into every dance and getting the energy to cope with their daily life. I once watched a video of a girl who lived in an area in the US without power due to recent hurricanes. She rushed home early and was able to pole dance before it got dark. This dedication is so inspiring!

7. What are your current goals?

To improve my pole flow and to take part in a pole competition some time in the near future.
