Finding music and inspiration for your pole dance performance

Are you struggling with choosing music for your next pole dance performance? Despite all the songs you have listened to on Spotify, you can’t still find one that hits it off right away. You keep searching but somehow it is impossible for you to find the perfect song.

Here are some tips that will make your music searching process easier:

1. Look beyond the mainstream

Go beyond the top hits and look for other genres that you would normally not listen to. Expand your horizon, find music in different genres in different countries. It will help you discover new perspective and perhaps inspiration. There are a lot of hidden charms in the music world - great artists with breathtaking tunes who have never made it to the top 100. Choosing something not on the mainstream will also set your performance apart from others. It will make you stand out if you are participating in a competition. The searching process could be lengthy but be patient. Reward comes to those who work hard. You can start by browsing playlists on Spotify. When you find a song you really like, look for name of the artist to see if he/she has any other songs out there.

2. Movie soundtrack

I love movie soundtracks. There are so many masterpieces out there which are just magical for your ears. They are so full of emotions with different instruments harmonizing together to create a perfect melody. My all time favorite movie soundtrack composer is Hans Zimmer. I also love music from John Williams and Stephen Schwartz. There are many great composers with amazing movie music, so find your favorite movies and start searching for the soundtrack.

3. Dance shows on TV

Some of the shows you can watch which gives you not only inspiration to music but also to floorwork and choreography: So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Star, Dance Moms, you name it. These dance performances normally give you names of the songs and artists. If you find a melody that you like, write it down.

4. Mix and match

Can’t decide between two tunes? Do these tunes go together? Why not create your own mix? If you have a Macbook, GarageBand is a great program to cut and mix music. Or find a friend who can do it for you.

No matter what you do, choose music that defines you and tells your story.

”Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” – Plato
